Electric-vehicle maker Tesla Motors opened its first dealership on Thursday, May 1, in Los Angeles. The Flagship Tesla dealership is located at the corner of Santa Monica and Sepulveda boulevards near the 405 freeway.
This car is for the “Go Green Baller” The Tesla Roadster cost in the range of $80,000-$120,000 and it doesn’t even have a tailpipe, meaning zero emissions. But you will get about 250 miles on a single charge, and reach speeds of about 130-miles per hour in an impressive 4-seconds. The Tesla Roadster’s power comes from a 3-phase, 4-pole AC induction motor coupled with the Power Electronics Module (PEM) which provides multiple functionality of inverting direct current to 3-phase alternating current, the charging system, and the regenerative braking system.
Only four production cars have been built. The company has 600 sold orders and a waiting list for 400 more. Tesla’s development problems with the two-speed Magna transmission has resulted a redesign and use of a one-speed transmission in collaboration with Ricardo UK Ltd.
Until the new transmission is ready, Teslas will be built on a slowed-down schedule by Lotus Cars Ltd. in England. Early-build cars will later have their transmissions replaced in a two-hour fix.
